The laboratories of Genome Biology (Prof. Jacob Corn) and Metabolic Diseases (Prof. Markus Stoffel) are seeking a
Bioinformatics specialist (100%, split 50/50 between the labs) . This position is not tied to a specific project, but
is instead aimed at general bioinformatics support for two laboratories. There are professional bioinformaticians
already working in each lab, and the wet lab members of each lab are savvy in quantitative analysis. So there will be
many chances for advanced collaboration and participation in a robust computational biology community.
Job description
You will primarily report to Professors Jacob Corn and Markus Stoffel, heads of the Genome Biology and Metabolic
Disease groups at ETH Zurich and work within a network of local, national and international collaborators. We are
located on neighbouring floors of the IMHS building and our groups are regularly in contact with one another.
Furthermore, you will be a highly collaborative, self-motivated Bioinformatics specialist with deep expertise in
modern next-generation sequencing output and analysis. You will provide expertise in computational genomics for the
analysis of next-gen sequencing data and its integration with public databases such as TCGA, CCLE, and ENCODE. In
addition, you provide consultation to researchers to design experiments, perform data analysis, and troubleshooting.
You will use computational infrastructure and software packages, including workstations, high-performance computing
clusters, and cloud/national infrastructure platforms. Moreover, you will also work as part of a team to draft
manuscripts and prepare presentations.
Profile
A PhD or equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field is
required.
You must have experience working with next-generation sequencing data. For example gene expression, single-cell
sequencing, alternative/differential splicing, RNA binding protein networks, functional genomics screening,
quantification of alleles from amplicon sequencing, lineage barcoding, single-cell and bulk RNA-Seq, ChIP-seq,
high-throughput sequence analysis, genome variant analysis. This position entails extensive collaborative work with
wet-lab researchers. You bring along experience working with a subset of standard bioinformatics, statistics, and
analytical tools and sufficient knowledge of UNIX/Linux to manage your working environment and interact with system
administrators and support staff. Other required qualifications are advanced skills in scripting or programming
languages, preferably Python, and the ability to communicate effectively in a highly diverse, cross-disciplinary
environment.
Preferred Qualifications are experience in analyzing genome editing experiments, genomic data exploration,
visualization, and figure preparation for publications, ability to complete and describe projects, demonstrated for
example by journal articles and/or preprints and as well software/pipeline creation and maintenance, version control,
reproducible workflows. You will be a highly collaborative, self-motivated researcher with deep expertise in modern
next-generation sequencing output and analysis.
